Disadvantages of Silver Fillings

The edges of the silver filling tend to wear down, and sometimes break, which can leave your tooth unprotected and result in cavities yet again. Silver fillings, usually contain mercury. These metals can corrode, leak and cause stains on your teeth and gums.

The good news is, these fillings can safely be replaced with much safer, durable and aesthetically pleasing tooth-colored restorations.

Advantages

Resin/composite restorations are bonded to the teeth creating a tight, superior fit to the natural tooth. Compared to amalgams, composite restorations usually require a minimal amount of tooth structure to be reduced further preserving healthy tooth structure and insuring a good long term prognosis.
